How did this genocide come to be?

Sudan gained its Independence from the UK in 1956. Which gave the Sudanese people more liberty to make their own government. Because of this liberty sudan has been involved in constant civil strife for the past two decades as said in http://www.e-w-s.orga/html/historicalbackground.html. The protagonists of this on going war are the farming-African and the Arab-Sudanese which have greater political power then the farming-Africans. This disagreement got more intense in 1983 after a drought that killed 95,000 people. The drought could have been prevented by a government warning. Arab-Sudanese were blamed for the killing because of there political power. Outraged by the carelessness of the Arab-Sudanese, Farming-Africans started to expand their land. Consequently, decreasing available vegetation for the Arabs cattle. Inferiated, Arabs allied with Libya forcing Africans to form their own rebel militia. Janjaweed militia was then brought by the Arabs to kill all the African Darfuris. Many innocent men and women have been kill and although many ceasedfires were declaire they all have been ignored. In affect, Sudan declared genocide in 2003. Increasing the number of refugee camps and Darfuris fleeing the country.

  1. Yuli, i think you paragraph of darfur is very intresting. The people in darfur struggle soo much. It would be awsome if somehow you could start a fundraiser or something to try and help them and raise money for them in some kind of way maybe through like a church or something.

  2. I can tell you did your research. There is lots of details that explain what they were going through, so it makes it more interesting. I had no idea everything that happened there but I can get a good picture of what happened. Good Job.

  3. You have a lot of good info, but some of your grammar errors get in the way of the reader's understanding. I'm so glad someone chose to write on such an important topic, and I hope you are able to spread awareness and inspire action.

  5. I'm glad you chose this topic! Hopefully, you'll have some luck in creating awareness. The Darfur situation is horrible, but the one thing that really irks me is that no one else in the world is standing up to do anything about it; besides activist groups, who unfortunately, have no political pull in the world arena. I can't believe the effects of the genocide and how the Sudanese government supports the Janjaweed (unofficially), but refuses to take action themselves while hundreds of thousands are dead or dying. The government even tries to cover up the mass death by burying the bodies so the rest of the world doesn't find out. Can you believe that? Some good places to find more info: The Save Darfur Coalition website (you can even become a member and order things like awareness bracelets, shirts, etc.), "Darfur Now" is a good movie to watch (it's documentary style, but it shows how ordinary people and Darfuris are trying to change the situation), research the Somalia Civil War as well (it'll give you some insight as to why democratic countries won't invade a rogue state for humitarian reasons)... good topic choice though. More people need to know what's going on.
